To the Editor:
We are beyond thankful for everyone who supported our “ROMPERS” in this year’s Swamp Romp event. On Saturday, March 11th, we saw more than 30 brave individuals jump into the near frozen Kiwanis Pond at the Wilton Family YMCA to benefit the youth from Norwalk, Redding and Wilton! The generosity from these communities allowed us to raise $24,500 in support. Our Rompers raised these funds to support over 3,500 children who participate in year-round programming at the Norwalk YMCA and the Wilton Family Y.
The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy and safe habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good citizenship, participating in youth development programs at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.
Everyone from our Executive Director and Board Members, to our staff team and volunteers came together for this incredible cause. Despite the frigid temperatures, we had a great crowd of observers to cheer everyone on. Perhaps next year those observers will be our next round of brave Rompers! Here at the Y, we love to support our community, and this annual event allows us to give back to the many children who are involved in our programs.
