Opinion: Response to Gov. Malloy’s State of the State address

State Rep. Fred Wilms (R-142).

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, we convened for the ceremonial Opening Day of the new legislative session. This year’s short session is intended to focus on matters stemming from the biennial budget passed during the previous year.

During Governor Malloy’s speech yesterday afternoon, he chose to ignore the state’s fiscal crisis and instead focus on his personal agenda, which I found disappointing. The budget deficit is the greatest problem our state faces today, and ignoring the problem will only allow it to worsen.

Following the governor’s address, I made some brief remarks about the 2018 Session, and our need to balance the budget and revive our economy.
