Shout Out to Norwalk ACTS’ TEAM Summer for launching the 2018 Summer Resource Portal this week. The TEAM Summer Portal is an online, interactive and centralized resource for parents, families and community members to identify and enroll children and youth in opportunities for summer programming across the city.
TEAM Summer, a summer learning community with more than 30 local members, is working collectively to ensure that more Norwalk children and youth have access to high-quality, summer fun and learning opportunities this summer. With the release of the Portal, the TEAM aims to not only increase the awareness of the importance of summer learning and experience, but to also more effectively connect children with age- and program-appropriate opportunities.
Shout Out to Norwalk Education Foundation for hosting a free screening of Angst, a documentary for parents and students at Norwalk High School March 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Angst is a 56-minute film and virtual reality experience that explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it. The film features candid interviews with kids and young adults and includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools.
Later this spring, Norwalk and Brien McMahon High Schools will be offering wellness days centered around issues highlighted in the movie and other social, emotional challenges facing our teens. Norwalk ACTS’ Social Emotional Learning Initiative is forming a working group to look at data, national trends and other research to formulate tactics to further increase SEL in our community.
