WILTON, Conn. – The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) on Thursday endorsed Republican Gail Lavielle for re-election to the state House of Representatives, representing the 143rd District, comprising parts of Norwalk, Wilton and Westport.

“Gail Lavielle knows the challenges facing our economy and how to create an economic climate in Connecticut that will help encourage private investment and create opportunities,” said Joe Brennan, CBIA executive vice president.

“We encourage voters to return her to Hartford.”

Lavielle is one of four local candidates endorsed by the pro-business group. Fellow Republican Terrie Wood, unopposed in the 141st, and Democrat Chris Perone, virtually unopposed for a sixth term and chairman of the House Commerce Committee, won CBIA endorsements, as did Norwalk Sen. Bob Duff (D-25).

Lavielle, who lives in Wilton, is seeking re-election for a third term in Hartford.

More about Lavielle can be found at CBIA’s election 2014 website. The site features a complete list of CBIA-endorsed candidates and information on key issues in the upcoming election.

Curious that CBIA divides its endorsements evenly between the two Parties that have such opposing views on how to re-invigorate the CT economy. Once upon a time CBIA was an active advocacy participant in CT gov’t. Maybe they now understand the realities of one party rule for the forseeable future. And the enthusiasm for huge grants to major corporation to remain in CT, eg Pratt Whitney and UBS. Whose next for a corporate handout ? GE ? Electric Boat ? Sikorsky ? People’s Bank ? CLP ?

You are wrong about the even distribution. cBIA endorsed far more Republicans statewide. Locally it was 2-2, with the moderate/conservative Democrat Duff — expected to have a major leadership position — and the head of the Commerce Committee Perone getting the nod. Strategic moves.

So the CBIA endorsed all of the Norwalk incumbents–guess conditions for businesses in CT aren’t as bad as the doom-sayers are all saying–otherwise, they’d be endorsing change.
