NORWALK, Conn. – Need a place to charge your phone? Dying for a shower? The city of Norwalk has suggestions:
- Charge your portable devices at Norwalk Police headquarters or at NEON (Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now). The police station is at the corner of Monroe and South Main Streets (parking might be a problem.) NEON is down the road at 98 South Main Street.
- Charge your cell phone and use the Wi-Fi at The Maritime Aquarium for free. You don’t need to pay to get in to do that, or to use the café or gift shop. The aquarium is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 days a week.
- Norwalk’s libraries have their Wi-Fi back and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. You can also pick up FEMA fact sheets and application materials.
- Get a shower at the Norwalk YMCA! You’ll have to sign in and initial a waiver releasing the YMCA from any liability derived from use of their facility. Bring your own towels. The Y is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. It is at 370 West Ave.
If all you want is company the Rowayton Library is open from noon to 2 p.m. each day – but they don’t have power either. They say they offer board games and a good book or two.
Norwalker Jen Montanari has another suggestion for Wi-Fi: the Brewhouse at 13 Marshall St. Also, everyone knows Panera Bread has Wi-Fi but I found you can get it at the Five Guys down the road, too. You can pick up a signal from Staples as you munch on the French fries.
This morning city offered the latest in power outage figures: at 7 a.m., 11,723 CL&P customers in Norwalk did not have power. Thursday night it was 13,425, or 45 percent of their customers. There were 12,468 customers out Thursday morning (42 percent) and 15,169 out (51 percent) out Wednesday night.
