WILTON, Conn. – The Connecticut Council of Police, Council 15 have endorsed Democratic candidate Keith Rodgerson in his run for State Representative in the 143rd District, which encompasses parts of Norwalk, Westport, and Wilton.

“It is our firm belief that your election to the state Legislature is in the best interests of the residents of Connecticut as well as our thousands of members who serve as sworn police officers throughout the state,” Jeffrey Matchett, executive director of Council 15, stated in a press release. “The Executive Board’s unanimous decision is evidence of our commitment to you.”

Rodgerson, who is trying to unseat two-term incumbent Republican Gail Lavielle, thanked Council 15 for its support in this upcoming election.

“Public safety is of great importance to me. I am thankful to have this show of support from our policemen. I come from a family of Connecticut policemen and firemen. We must always ensure that those who protect us in our greatest time of need are given the support they need. They put their safety on the line for us every day, so we must always look out for them in these uncertain and challenging times. When I go to Hartford, I will ensure that the agendas of our first responders are heard and acted upon, and that we protect, not divide and weaken, Connecticut’s common sense gun legislation.”

The Connecticut Council of Police, Council 15 represents nearly 4,000 police officers from over 60 communities throughout Connecticut.

Predictable and also disappointing. The unions have fallen in line behind Malloy and the self-serving Hartford Democratic machine.

In Bridgeport Rodgerson co-sponsored a resolution against the Patriot Act. ” it would be unacceptable for us to give the federal government our help to engage in that type of policing,” Rodgerson said.

Gail Lavielle is looking out for our children’s education, our safety, and our wallets.
