Duff takes ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk state Sen. Bob Duff (D-25) invoked Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny on Sunday before dumping a bucket of ice cold water on his own head.

Duff and Dr. Shawn Tittle were taking the ALS Challenge – like, as he said, just about everyone else in the world – to raise awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Participants are challenged to either donate money to ALS or have a bucket of ice water poured on their head – or both.

“I think everybody in the world has done the challenge who is going to do the challenge,” Duff said. “So I challenge Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, who I think have not done it yet.”

But then he challenged Mary Pugh of SoNo Group Inc. and family members Joanne Duff and Tracey Duff, and doused himself.

The ALS ice bucket challenge came at the end of Duff’s latest ice cream social in his yard on Toilsome Avenue.
