DUI enforcement checkpoint planned for Friday night

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Police Department will set up a motor vehicle DUI checkpoint on West Avenue starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, through 3 a.m. Saturday. Additional officers will also be roaming the city, looking specifically for impaired drivers beyond the checkpoint.

The most recent reporting period showed that 67 percent of DUI crashes occur during the weekend.

In Connecticut, the percentage of alcohol-related fatalities – 43 percent – was higher than the national average of 36 percent.

The motor vehicle checkpoint is made possible by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office.
