East Norwalk synagogue plans menorah-lighting ceremony

(Updated 4:13 p.m. to add Christmas tree-lighting ceremony)

NORWALK, Conn. – There will be a menorah-lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Congregation Beth El, 109 East Ave. in East Norwalk.

According to a press release, “a few years ago, the Third Taxing District would host a tree-lighting ceremony and a separate menorah-lighting ceremony at another venue. When that venue was turned into something else, the local synagogue … was the recipient of the menorah candelabra the TTD had commissioned years previous.”

Tuesday’s lighting, on the front lawn of Beth El’s synagogue, will be a short ceremony, with children from the Beth El’s Nevasky Hebrew School in attendance, according to the release.

TTD’s annual Christmas tree lighting in Governor Fitch Park at Rogers Square is planned for 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, and will include performances by Marvin School Chorus and Deja vu, plus holiday treats and a visit from Santa Claus.

Rain date is 6 p.m. Dec. 9.

The public is welcomed to attend both events.
