Five vying for Republican BOE nominations

Republican Board of Education member Sue Haynie would like to run for re-election this fall with her party’s backing.

NORWALK, Conn. – Five potential Board of Education candidates will introduce themselves Thursday evening to the Norwalk Republican Town Committee .

There are four slots for Republican At-Large BOE candidates in the fall election. Current BOE members Sue Haynie and Artie Kassimis are seeking re-election, RTC Chairman Art Scialabba said. Also seeking Republican nominations are Lauren Rosato, John Bazzano and Linda Kruk. Those are the people invited to speak to the RTC.

Current BOE Republican member Steven Colarrossi announced Wednesday morning that he is running for re-election as a member of a newly formed independent party, the “Norwalk Community Values” party.

There were seven potential Republican candidates, Scialabba said. Two dropped out. The potential candidates were vetted by the RTC executive committee and the membership will decide at the July 22 convention which of the five candidates will run on the ticket in the fall, he said.

Thursday’s meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at the Norwalk Inn.
