Himes plans three October debates

NORWALK, Conn. – U.S. Rep Jim Himes (D-4) said Friday he plans three debates this fall – including one in Norwallk – presumably with Republican challenger Dan Debicella.

The press release announcing the debate schedule did not mention Debicella by name or party.

The release said the debates will provide an opportunity for voters to hear from the candidates on a wide range of issues including the jobs and the economy, foreign affairs, and the economic development opportunities in Southwestern Connecticut.

“I look forward to engaging in a vibrant exchange of ideas on issues residents of the Fourth District care about,” said Himes in the release. “These debates will provide the opportunity for positive conversations about how we will create jobs and make the investments needed to strengthen our country’s economic foundation and improve the quality of life in Southwest Connecticut.”

Debicella, 39, a Shelton resident, Shelton, served two terms in the state Senate representing eastern Fairfield County. The Republican candidate also has been endorsed by the Independent Party.

Himes, a Democrat, aslo has been endorsed by the Working Families Party. Both candidates will appear twice on the November ballot.

Public debates will include:

  • Oct. 19, Wilton, sponsored by the League of Women Voters
  • Oct. 20, Stamford, sponsored by the World Affairs Forum
  • Oct. 28, Norwalk, sponsored by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and Cablevision
