NORWALK, Conn. – U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-D4) has received the endorsement of Fairfield County veterans in his reelection bid. Himes, who is seeking a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, received the endorsement during an event Monday morning at Veteran’s Park.

Himes is being challenged in the Nov. 4 election by Republican Dan DeBicella.

“At campaign time, we seek endorsements,” said Himes. “We seek endorsements of groups that we have hopefully served, and I will tell you this morning that there is no endorsement I value more than the endorsement of these veterans I am standing with today. To have their validation, to hear from them that in these last six years that I’ve worked hard to serve them is about as high an honor as I can receive.”

Himes was joined at the event by veterans Paul Bucha, a Ridgefield resident and a Medal of Honor recipient, David Cole and Taber Hamilton of Norwalk, Archie Elam of Stamford, and State Rep. Jack Hennessey of Bridgeport, House chairman of the Connecticut Veteran’s Committee.

“I served two tours in Vietnam and I served 20 years in the service and, very frankly, I loved every minute of it,” said Cole, a retired Army lieutenant colonel. “And the aftermath caught up with me. I had a stroke and I’ve been handicapped since. Jim and his staff were a tremendous help to me and I’ll appreciate it for as long as I live. I support Jim completely.”

“Jim is a very special person, and right now what this country needs is leadership,” said Bucha. “Not inexperienced leadership. Proven leadership. That is what the veterans are looking for and are entitled to have. Most importantly, Jim is a compassionate man who listens. Those who have served and their families need someone to look up to, and Jim is one of the extraordinary ones. Even though he is relatively young in the Congress, he is a leader in the Congress.”

Is this a club or some real VFW type org? What is the membership and what is their opinion of the scandals at the VAs under Himes’ watch?

I have personally seen Congressman Himes (along with Senators Blumenthal and Murphy)work with local businesses to advocate for and assist with ensuring vetetanshave job oppopportunities. In CT. Respect and assistance for our veterans is constant with him. You will not find anyone stronger on this issue.
