The mosque planned for 127 Fillow St. would likely be built elsewhere if the court, as expected, approves a deal worked out between the Al Madany Islamic Center and the city.

NORWALK, Conn. – Court acceptance of the suit settlement between Al Madany Islamic Center and the city of Norwalk could come Tuesday, according to Norwalk Corporation Counsel Mario Coppola.

The deal, hashed out over several months amidst much public acrimony,  takes building a mosque at 127 Fillow St. in West Norwalk off the table, with the city agreeing to purchase the land and kick in an additional sum, as well as assistance in finding Al Madany another site.
“The executed settlement agreement had been submitted to the court. The court scheduled a telephonic conference for this Tuesday at 1 p.m.,” Coppola said in an email response to NancyOnNorwalk. “It is possible that Judge Shea will approve the agreement during the telephonic conference on Tuesday, however, I don’t know what is going to happen. If he does not approve it on Tuesday, I assume that it will get approved soon.”
