Norwalk Bike/Walk Commission hosts GirlTREK community walk, panel

Norwalk residents are invited to a free community walk and conversation hosted by GirlTREK and the Norwalk Bike/Walk Commission on June 6 at The Norwalk Art Space, 455 West Ave.

The guided walk begins at 9:45 a.m. along a section of the Norwalk River Valley Trail between Mathews Park and Oyster Shell Park, followed by a panel discussion and light refreshments.

Organizers say the event centers Black women’s wellness, mental health, and the importance of safe, accessible public spaces.

A “no-drop” walk format will be used, meaning “loop & scoop” volunteers will stay with the group and circle back to ensure no one is left behind.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as the event will take place rain or shine. Walking, biking, and public transit are also encouraged, with limited parking available at nearby Mathews Park.

The event is free and open to all, though minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Accessibility support is available by contacting norwalkbikewalk@gmail.com. More information about the event, including the schedule and panel details, is available on Eventbrite.
