Norwalk schools’ fire hazards will be fixed next year

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk plans to address a potential safety hazard at its schools during the next school year.

The capital budget request approved by the Board of Education Tuesday night includes $192,604 to replace stage rigging and curtains. The curtains have exceeded their life expectancy and need to be made flame and fire retardant to current standards, documents say. Stage rigging is not currently up to code either, the documents say.

Stage rigging will be refurbished at Norwalk High School, Ponus Ridge Middle School, Roton Middle School, West Rocks Middle School, Columbus Magnet School, Cranbury Elementary School, Fox Run Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School, Kendall Elementary School, Marvin Elementary School, Naramake Elementary School, Silvermine Elementary School, Tracey Elementary School and Wolfpit Elementary School.

Stage curtains will be replaced at Roton Middle School, West Rocks Middle School, Brookside Elementary School, Columbus Magnet School, Cranbury Elementary School, Fox Run Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School, Kendall Elementary School, Marvin Elementary School, Naramake Elementary School, Rowayton Elementary School, Silvermine Elementary School, Tracey Elementary School and Wolfpit Elementary School.
