Whether Ms. Brinton wins or loses Norwalk’s mayoral election, she has won the respect and gratitude of her NURDs (Norwalk Unaffiliated, Republican and Democrat supporters). Fiscally conservative and socially progressive, unaffiliated Ms. Brinton has grown a grassroots coalition of residents who are acutely aware that single party rule, machine politics have hijacked their city, resulting in cronyism and lack of government transparency. They endorse her resident inclusive, nonpartisan style of leadership. They admire that she has provided them a voice; she has led them to have courageous conversations about mismanagement which negatively impacts them without fear of retribution by city hall insiders.
Ms. Brinton has both brought light to and been a direct target of how crony capitalism corrupts. She has run a clean campaign, displaying grace under fire while enduring heinous, coordinated character slander attacks by Messrs. Duff and Camacho, and by their wingmen, Messrs. Mushak and Hosten. When the good ol’ boys went low, Ms. Brinton went high. That Mayor Rilling condoned their slander is dishonorable. A true public servant would’ve demanded that these men apologize. Ms. Brinton has been disingenuously accused of plagiarizing a nonexistent Rilling mayoral platform upon releasing hers. She has been smeared to uninformed voters in divisive Rilling endorsed propaganda flyers which suggest if you don’t vote for him, then you’re a Trump supporter. As an unaffiliated voter and Lisa supporter, I’m offended that Norwalk’s residents have been misled to solicit Rilling votes.
Hopefully, Ms. Brinton’s groundswell of NURDs flood the polls on November 5th to vote the crony baloney out. Norwalk is home to a high percentage of unaffiliateds who can put Ms. Brinton over the top if they vote for the candidate who sees policy over party, and wants to unify, not divide Norwalk. NURDs Unite! Let’s change the narrative of Norwalk local politics! Voting in a business savvy, energetic, BRAVE mayor with a solid, comprehensive reform platform would buck the status quo and be something for Norwalk to be incredibly proud of!
