Press release: Dr. Michael Conner, Norwalk Public Schools Chief Academic Officer, wins The Network Journal’s 40-Under-40 Achievement Award

Dr. Michael T. Conner, Norwalk Public Schools Chief Academic Officer, was the recent recipient of The Network Journal’s 20th annual 40-Under-40 Achievement award. The dinner was held Thursday, June 15 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New York’s Time Square. Dr. Conner has been employed with Norwalk Public Schools since September 21, 2015. Under his leadership, his team has made great strides for the district, including, but not limited to, middle school redesign, closing, closing the gap for ELL/ESL students and improved overall data in various cohorts.

    I have the solution to improving Norwalk schools.

    It is disingenuous to state that he closed any achievement gap since arriving September 21, 2015. No one is able to achieve miracles in such a short period of time. Otherwise, he is to be commended for the award and for other accomplishments.

    Only a longitudinal study of test scores allows us to draw that conclusion. It the test scores drop next year, does that mean he failed in his job? No. That is why my argument is valid.
