Respect science, vote for Duff

I was appalled to read news reports about the “Connecticut Freedom Alliance” lawsuit over the mask requirement for school children. For those who don’t know this is a group that is backing Republican Ellie Kousidis in her run for State Senate. To me, this is insane. This group sites the fact that children rarely show symptoms of the coronavirus – and they are right in that respect, but what is left out is the fact that the children can pass the disease onto family members, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, I can go on. This attitude is reckless, dangerous and selfish!

As a society we have made the decision to require licenses and insurance for people to drive cars, we have established a minimum age for drinking and established a maximum level of alcohol in the blood for driving a car. These are all policies implemented to protect other members of our Connecticut family. With the rise of coronavirus cases around the country and in Connecticut we must be vigilant. We know masks work in preventing the spread of the disease.

I cannot support someone who does not believe in science and is willing to put our whole society at risk for a disease that can do the damage that the coronavirus can do. I am proud to say that I have already voted for Bob Duff for State Senate. He believes in putting our children and our health first.

I find this post just a little disingenuous. Just because a group endorses a candidate doesn’t necessarily mean that candidate supports that group.
AND of course the Bob Duff affair in August was a disgrace. Demonizing the police to score cheap political points was unconscionable.

And what does Mr. Duff teach our children..It’s OK to lie and make up stories to get attention. Mr. Duff continually lies and ignores his constituents. Mr. Duff cares about 1 person and that is himself. He is good for a few things Weather and Traffic reports and lets not wasting the taxpayers money (TyVek Tower) and he loves voting in favor for EVERY Tax Increase he has faced. Bob’s time is up. We have a new educated, powerful. and well respected double mastered educator ready to take over and actually fight for our City and our children!

That is not true. It seems though that’s the only thing you Republicans talk about in terms of Ellie Kousidis. One rarely sees any positions she has like what Melissa Goosmann discusses above and her terrible ideas about childhood vaccinations because they are simply appalling. The rest of her campaign about putting Duff down for some silly incident that they always mischaracterize, like her backers regularly do here at Nancy on Norwalk. Well, the GOP has to put up someone to run against Duff. They certainly can’t find anything of substance to justify running against him so, they keep hustling that he’s “Demonizing” the police ad nauseum.

Enough already. I’ll double what Mr O’Neill wrote. Btw, I wonder who the police, their friends, their families are voting for this fall. Any data on that?

I’ll add if we’re such a rule-oriented society, let’s have some open discussion about the preponderance of folks driving without a license and registration. When I look at my GEICO bill I see a line item for “uninsured motorists”.

@milbank — The only people mischaracterizing Bob Duff affair with police are his acolytes who continue to drink his kool-aid. There are many issues he’s misled us on over his term. State Transportation fund raiding comes to mind, but I’m sure you think that’s a myth. At least that’s what Dems have been told to believe from above. There are many other issues he’s screwed up over the years that have been discussed in prior comments. No need to repeat all of them unless you’d like me to do that for you. IF you don’t think his politicizing the police we grew up on different planets. —
That being said, Notre Dame plays Saturday afternoon. I’d be glad to discuss this further over cold Budweisers while watching the Irish take on Georgia Tech.

John,

“Just because a group endorses a candidate doesn’t necessarily mean that candidate supports that group”
She does support them. She is not shy about this. Clear as day on her Facebook page she’s a member of this group. It’s just not debatable. A google search and you can see her history of putting on events.
I don’t know if she was the youngest person at an RTC meeting and that was enough for the nomination but there have to be better candidates. Spend 2 minutes on the CT Freedom Alliance page. I am not a Duff fan but this is way too bizarre for me.

The police thing isn’t bigger because most residents here do support the law. Two examples. We have an officer who’s spent at least seven percent of his career on suspension. Our current chief, says he doesn’t remember him being suspended more than a year, while he was a sergeant. Our mayor and then-chief shrugs and says he can’t recall either. Second example, at this candidate’s campaign event at police HQ, you have another officer sitting front and center that we’re paying out multiple excessive force settlements. We will all be paying pensions for both. The city’s shown it isn’t interested or cares so maybe some state oversight isn’t so bad?

I’ll take you up on the beer sometime. Since I’m left of center, I’ll bring some microbrew IPA’s for us!

@AL – will reconnect on your points…No matter what Duff’s actions in August were despicable to me
On another point, although Budweiser is my flavor of choice IPAs are always welcome here..
Thx

@Al. Thanks for showing what side of the war on cops you are on. You could do it in a fewer sentences next time, but that’s your nickel….or maybe it’s mine after Duff taxes it?

Sure, John, if you don’t mind coming out to my weekend home on Neptune.

@Milbank – Send me the directions and I’ll bring the Brats and Beers.
We probably have more in common than you think.
