Santa Setti’s retirement slightly delayed

Elise Bell, then-7, visits with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus on Christmas Eve in 2012 at Setti’s Christmas Village.

NORWALK, Conn. – Come December, Norwalk’s own Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are getting national attention. Meaning, a television broadcast. No word yet on what television channel.

One year ago, Rick and Joan Setti said they were retiring, that they would be tapering back this year and making this Christmas the last one for their ginormous Christmas light display on Midwood Lane. They’d be cutting back after 25 years of year-round volunteer effort, they said, and would not be creating any new characters.

Sources say that hasn’t quite worked out.

“This is their 26th and final year and they have been selected for a nationally televised lighting contest,” a family friend said, declining to provide details.

The show will be broadcast in early December, the friend said.

The Settis declined to comment.

Imagine how many children these two wonderful people brought joy to. Thank you, you have earned a well deserved rest, now, whose the next Mr. and Mrs. Claus to take up the reins to the sled? 🙂

Why, I am sure there are “elves” in Norwalk who would donate a little time surely to help!

Sorry to hear, my childrens Secret Santa who would deliver toys all over Norwalk on Christmas Eve is working on have his family come to him. I guess when the age hits and the bones wont let you move as quickly up and down stairs jumping off a truck doesn’t help. But at least he will be able to give the children a Christmas inside.

Truly the Setti’s have shown us a true meaning of Christmas spirit. I have had the privilege of taking all of my children to Setti’s home since it began. This year our youngest Savannah will enjoy here first experience along with our oldest Amanda celebrating her 25th. God Bless you Rich and Joan and Thank you…peace
