Scialabba: Time for Norwalk Republicans to find new leader

Norwalk Republican Town Committee Chairman Art Scialabba gets ready for an interview on election night.

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Republicans appear to be facing a change in leadership, as Art Scialabba is not intending to run for re-election as chairman.

“I’ve stated at the last RTC (Republican Town Committee) meeting that I would not be seeking the chairmanship spot when we elect officers in March,” Scialabba said in an email.  “Some people have expressed interest, but no one firm yet.”

Scialabba has been chairman since 2002. The RTC will elect new members Jan. 8, and they will take office March 10, he said.

Common Councilman Richard Bonenfant (R-At Large) said he wasn’t sure if Scialabba would go through with it because “a lot of people say they had enough” and then reconsider. But he also said he has not been involved with the RTC since shortly before the election and might not be up to speed on on Scialabba’s plans.

Bonenfant said he didn’t know anybody who wants the position.

‘It doesn’t matter who you are, it’s a thankless job,” he said. “If somebody wins it’s because they worked hard. If they lose, ‘The town committee didn’t do enough for me.’ When people win they think they won by themselves.”

Scialabba did a good job, he said.

“I totally appreciate it,” he said. “Art gave you the ways and means. He did everything that should be done for candidates. It’s up to the candidates to go out and hustle the rest.”

“Art gave you the ways and means. He did everything that should be done for candidates.” That would be if you wanted to maintain a level of governance that dwells in the disrespectful, secretive, disreputable, derisive and downright nasty. I hope his successor learns that a bit of civility in public matters as well as the consciousness of service goes along way in obtaining any goal including political.

“disrespectful, secretive, disreputable, derisive and downright nasty”. Suzanne, Suzanne, Suzanne. Nasty? Tempering and censoring yourself? Think there would be more than a few that can think of many other adjectives but wouldnt pass this sites TOS test. So, perhaps the lawn signs will not disappear anymore, going forward? – “He has not been involved with the RTC since shortly before the election.” Yes we see, and most dont miss his anonymous mud slinging posts. Gooddbye AS and thank you for your service. NOT.

If you would add beating up a senior citizen it would describe the DTC perfectly.

  4. And let’s not forget physically threatening another council member when a temper tantrum sets in because “one” didn’t like “the man” with authority.

We’ll miss Art’s literate OpEds that livened up our usual placid local political scene. Especially his pithy commentary after the The Hour Mayoral Debate – “Democrats will raise taxes”.
