Seven nursing homes fined following medication errors, injuries

HARTFORD, Conn. – Seven nursing homes have been fined by the state Department of Public Health in connection with medication errors and incidents that led residents to be burned or break a leg.

In two separate citations on July 24, Sharon Health Care Center was fined $1,580 and $1,050 in connection with several violations of state regulations.

The other homes involved include Regency Heights of Danielson, Evergreen Woods of North Branford, the Kent home in Kent, Fairview Healthcare Center of Greenwich, Walnut Hill Care Center in New Britain, Westport Health Care Center,

    Considering how hard nursing home staff work, the number of patients (sorry — residents) they care for, the long hours they work, it is not surprising that an error is made from time to time. On the whole these facilities do an amazing job caring for people who cannot be cared for at home.
