NORWALK, Conn. – Three things you may need to know:

• Stroffolino Bridge closed Tuesday-Thursday
• A hiring event for The SoNo Collection
• Annual essay contest for high school students

Choose a different route

The Stroffolino Bridge will be closed due to construction activities from 9 a.m., Tuesday, (Sept. 10) until 9 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 12), according to Norwalk Communications Manager Joshua Morgan.

Detours will be in place, he said. Motorists are asked to drive slowly and anticipate delays.

Hiring event

Anyone interested in hospitality, fashion or beauty and “looking for an exciting opportunity at The SoNo Collection’s stores and experiences” is invited to a public hiring event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Double Tree Suites, located at 789 Connecticut Ave., according to a press release.

“Open positions include sales associates, cashiers, customer service representatives, managers, inventory control specialists, etc.,” the release said.

The SoNo Collection is expected to open in mid-October.

$1000 and $500 Prizes

The Kemper Human Rights Education Foundation (khref.org) is offering a first prize of $1,000 and second prize of $500 to high school students judged to have written the best answers to this question:

Deadline for submission is Dec. 10  (Human Rights Day).

“Essays should be between 1,000 and 2,500 words and include a cover page with the: title of the essay, author’s name, name and address of the high school, name of a teacher or administrator at the high school, author’s grade level, date submitted, and the following statement signed by the author and author’s parent or guardian: ‘I give the Kemper Human Rights Education Foundation permission to publish this essay,’” the release said. “Essays will be judged according to how clearly and well they answer the question posed and the extent to which they are supported by research. Awards: Winners will be announced and awards presented on January 14, 2020.”
