NORWALK, Conn. — Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, and Norwalk’s parade is once again a great opportunity for our residents to not only remember those who gave their lives in service, but also to say “thanks” to our veterans at the parade.
It’s also the event when a powerful, heartfelt gesture overwhelms us all: residents from all over Norwalk and every walk of life holding colorful red, white and blue “Thank You” signs as our veterans pass by.
Last we created a “Sea of Thank You’s” from the East Norwalk train station to the Norwalk Inn. This year, thanks to the generosity of Fran DiMeglio and our friends at Northrup Grumman Corporation, we have more than 5,000 signs, and will have a “Wall of Thank You’s” from the East Avenue Cemetery all the way to The Green!
Volunteers from across the city help us distribute the signs to parade goers, and we always appreciate more help.
Saying “Thank you” to our veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice is important. So when you join your neighbors at the parade this year, please watch for our volunteers distributing the signs, and be sure to get one to proudly hold as our veterans pass by. Then keep your sign for all the Norwalk events where our veterans are honored.
