NORWALK, Conn. – A cargo van rolled over Tuesday on Interstate 95 in Norwalk after it struck yellow safety sand barrels at a work zone, the Norwalk Fire Department reports. The driver was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.
The accident in the area of exit 14 on the northbound side was reported at 1:45 p.m. Firefighters found a Ford cargo van rolled onto its passengers’ side, Dep. Chief Chris King said. The driver of the van was sitting on the side of the road.
The van was delivering miscellaneous restaurant supplies when the accident occurred, King said. Firefighters assisted paramedics and applied absorbent material onto a small spill of antifreeze. The van was righted by a towing company and a contractor replaced the safety barrels, closing the highway for approximately 20 minutes. Connecticut State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
