NORWALK, Conn. – Bob Virgulak will be staying on for a while as chairman of the Oak Hills Park Authority, although his term has expired, Mayor Richard Moccia said.
Both Virgulak’s and Ernie Desrochers’ terms expired Monday, according to the city’s website.
“They can both legally serve until replaced,” Moccia said in an email. “I anticipate making permanent appointments next month. Mr. Virgulak is term limited out, but I would need to keep him on board until we have a decision on the driving range.”
That decision is expected by the end of the summer, Desrochers said last week.
Desrochers was appointed Sept. 26 to fill the unexpired term of Ralph Depanfilis, the city website says. He is chairman of the Ad Hoc Driving Range Committee.
A NancyOnNorwalk commenter has repeatedly stated that Virgulak is a felon and recently supplied a link to a story in The Hour. On Oct. 9, 1982, Virgulak was sentenced to a suspended one-year prison term and two years of probation after pleading guilty to a first degree larceny charge, the story says. That stemmed from improprieties at the Second Taxing District’s utilities, the story says.
Virgulak said he has no criminal record and the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch website has no listing for him.
“That was 100 years ago,” Virgulak said.
He said he doesn’t care what people say about him.
“I’m 71 years old,” he said. “I’m well off. I don’t care.”
Correction made, June 26, Virgulak’s age, quote.
